On Oct. 19, the Office of State Human Resources authorized the University of North Carolina system to offer up to 80 hours of “Other Management Approved Leave” to employees who have spent or need to spend time off handling damage to their homes caused by Hurricane Matthew.

Employees who qualify for this paid leave can use it to cover time spent to handle substantial damage to, or a total loss of, their principal place of residence as a direct result of Hurricane Matthew and its impact since Oct. 8.

This includes time during the storm or time needed after the storm to attend to repairs and related issues. Please note that situations such as power outages are not considered substantial damage.

These benefits are available to qualifying Extension employees from both NC State University and N.C. A&T State University.

To receive this leave, employees must apply for it by using a special online form from NC State’s Human Resources Benefits Office. The deadline to submit the form to the HR Benefits Office is Dec. 31, 2016.

The request form should be completed by the impacted employee and turned in along with documentation to the employee’s supervisor. The supervisor may review the request and approve it, modify it or decline it based on the documentation provided. The request form linked below also contains FAQs.
