Each new year brings greater opportunities and new beginnings. When it comes to creating our new year’s resolutions, oftentimes we set unrealistic goals, get discouraged about not being able to complete them, and eventually give up and never make it to the finish line. In this new year, focus less on improving everything about yourself and instead create 1-3 achievable goals. What are S.M.A.R.T.E.R Goals?

Goals help to identify an aim or desired outcome. Whether your goals are personal or professional in nature, the S.M.A.R.T.E.R. goal framework helps provide clarity on your desired outcomes and ensures you set realistic and meaningful goals for yourself.

Tips for Maintaining Your Goals:

  • Focus on 1-3 goals – It’s tempting to make a long list of everything you want to achieve or fix this year but it can delay your progress and leave you overwhelmed. A maximum of 3 goals should be identified.
  • Create a “Vision Board” – Create a visualization of your goal and put it somewhere you will see it often. This will remind you of your goal(s) and keep you more conscious of what you want to achieve and your “why.”
  • Find a goal buddy – Having a friend who is also working on the same goal can help keep you motivated and accountable
  • Create a plan – Create S.M.A.R.T.E.R. Goals using this worksheet. It’s also a great way of keeping track of how well your plan is working.
